Books and Literature about w114 & w115
Over the many years several books and illustrated books about the /8 have been published, and some of them consist mainly of pictures and basic information, mostly from the generally accessible picture archive of Daimler AG. The most valuable book about this series in terms of content, with intensive research in the picture archive and through contact with engineers of the time of the Strichachter, was written by Michael Rohde and Detlef Koch already in 1996 and this book is still the ultimate among Strichacht fans, although it is unfortunately no longer available.
But via online platforms and antiquarian bookstores, this book can be obtained again and again, but it is quickly called among collectors a price of EUR 120, - to 150, -, although there is a very similar new edition of Michael Rohde since 2016. But this current book from 2016 is "only" a new edition of this classic and is only "almost" congruent.
We have therefore tried to list here the one or other book that should not be missing in a literature shelf of a /8 garage. However, this listing has no claim to completeness and we are also happy to be informed and instructed if there are books on the subject of dash 8 somewhere in this world, which we may and should include here. (All information without guarantee !)
This book is considered THE /8 must-have literature par excellence. The authors Michael Rohde and Detlef Koch have compiled here in the early nineties in meticulous research a standard work on the /8. It is not a repair book but a description of the vehicles and the philosophy and development behind it. The history of the model and its development is described in detail. The individual technical solutions are described in their development and technically evaluated. It contains valuable tables about numbers and the differences as well as development steps of the individual model care. Finally, the book integrates a detailed buying guide that systematically works through a comprehensive test logic of a /8 purchase object.

The stories in this book are not about the series and technical things. They are about encounters with passengers and other people and what can come out of them. It tells of a time when the profession of cab driving was still rewarding and done by proud drivers and was not just a part-time job. When it was difficult to impossible to get a permit for a cab and the number of cabs in a city was regulated by concessions. Often it is also about the various attempts of the passengers to avoid paying for the ride or to find another way of payment. And there all in a 220D/8, the blue Mercedes cab that made its rounds in Vienna.
